Frequently asked questions

Checked on October 23, 2026. Conditions for foreign customers can change — our staff will confirm them during consultation.

Can I get help in English at KT Store?

Yes. International customers can get KT mobile consultation in English. KT Store Sillim also operates KT Global Store for international customers. If you want to make sure an English-speaking staff member is available, call the store before visiting.

Can I open a phone line in Korea with only a passport?

Yes, but only a prepaid line. A prepaid line opened with a passport can be used for up to 90 days. For postpaid plans or long-term use, please visit again after you receive your Alien Registration Card.

What ID do I need for a postpaid plan?

Usually an Alien Registration Card, Permanent Resident Card, or Domestic Residence Report (for overseas Koreans). Whether you can subscribe, and how many lines, depends on your visa type, remaining stay period, and a guarantee (credit) check.

Can foreigners buy a phone on installments?

It depends on your visa type. For example, D-2 (student) and E-9 (non-professional employment) visas allow 1 installment line with a limit of KRW 1,000,000 as a basic standard, if at least 6 months of stay remain. Short-term visas (B-1, B-2, C-1, C-3, C-4) and foreign minors cannot use installments. Final approval depends on the guarantee check.

Can I use a short-term or tourist visa for a postpaid plan?

No. Short-term stay visas such as B-1, B-2, C-1, C-3 and C-4 cannot open postpaid lines or use device installments. You can open a prepaid line with your passport for up to 90 days.

How can I pay my phone bill?

Prepaid: cash, credit card, or prepaid card. Postpaid: automatic payment from a Korean bank account or a Korean credit card in your own name.

Can I use eSIM?

USIM can be used for both prepaid and postpaid plans. eSIM has some restrictions — for example, it cannot be used with prepaid plans — so please ask our staff.

Can I keep my number when I switch to KT?

Yes, in most cases. Prepaid or postpaid numbers from other carriers and MVNOs can be moved to KT Global Prepaid. Diplomatic staff and USFK members have some restrictions. We will check your conditions in store.

Can I change from prepaid to postpaid later?

Yes. Once you receive your Alien Registration Card, you can switch from prepaid to postpaid if you meet the conditions. Availability and number of lines depend on your visa and the guarantee check.

Can a foreign minor open a phone line?

Yes. A foreign minor needs their own Alien Registration Card or Domestic Residence Report, the legal guardian's ID, and a document showing the family relationship. Registering the legal guardian is required, and device installments are not available for minors.

What documents do USFK members need?

USFK members need their military orders with a US driver's license or State ID. Family members need orders that include family information, with a family member's driver's license or family member ID card. Device installments require a prior review.

Are KT Store locations open on Sundays?

Yes. All three stores are open Monday to Saturday 10:00–20:00 and Sunday 10:00–19:00. Please call ahead for public holidays.

Can I take the phone home on the same day?

Yes, if the model is in stock. After consultation and sign-up checks, the phone can be activated the same day. Stock differs by color and storage, so please call before visiting.

Can I try a phone before buying?

Yes. All three stores have demo phones so you can check the screen size, weight and camera yourself before deciding.

Do I need a reservation?

No, walk-ins are welcome. You can also book a visit time through Naver Booking to reduce waiting time.

Is there a KT customer center for foreigners?

Yes. KT foreign customer center: 080-448-0100. For purchases and sign-up, visit or call a KT Store near you.
